Marine Cove or Coastal PlayGrove? A play day at East Coast Park
East Coast Park’s two big play destinations are in different areas. Marine Cove in Area C centres on a lighthouse-inspired climbing tower, slides and smaller play areas. Coastal PlayGrove in Area B combines a much taller challenge with water and nature play.
Both are free, but Coastal PlayGrove needs more planning: its Vertical Challenge is for ages 13 and above, while the water and nature zones have different guidance and operating times. Choose the zone as well as the destination. Sections of the nature playgarden are closed for maintenance through 31 October 2026. Check NParks’ current notice before planning nature play.

NParks gives ages 13 and above for the play tower, including its Vertical Challenge and slides. That is separate from the younger age bands for water and nature play. Check each activity’s onsite participation signs before joining in.
Marine Cove: a tower with smaller play alongside
Marine Cove’s eight-metre, lighthouse-inspired tower links climbing nets, a rope bridge and three slides. NParks places the tower in the 5–12 age group. Two smaller areas have guidance for ages 2–5, giving families a reason to choose Marine Cove beyond the main climb.
The site also has inclusive equipment, which NParks lists for all ages. This is separate from Coastal PlayGrove’s wheelchair-accessible water area. An inclusive feature does not establish that every activity or route across either destination meets every access need.

Make the water session the anchor of the outing
Bring a towel and dry clothes if Coastal’s water area is the main plan. NParks identifies nearby toilets for drying and changing. Check current notices before travelling, especially around maintenance days or wet weather.
